Fold the fabric over at the waist towards the inside of the skirt the amount of the width of the waistband (1 1/4 inch) plus 1/4 inch ease. Stitch close to the edge of the seam to create the casing.
Next, cut a piece of elastic about 1” to 4” shorter than your waist measurement. (Note: Make sure the width of your elastic is slightly smaller than the casing you created.) Hook a safety pin to one end of the elastic and slide it through the casing. To ensure that you do not lose the other end of the elastic inside the casing, hook a safety pin to that end as well for a better grip. Gather the fabric as evenly as possible until you reach the amount of your waist measurement and pin in place.
