Next, determine the width of elastic you’d like to use for your waistband. In this example, we used 1 1/4 inch wide elastic. Add 5/8 inch to this amount for seam allowance plus an extra 1/4 inch so there is room in the casing for the elastic to slide through. Add this total measurement to the height of the rectangle. (In this example, the total amount added would be 2 1/8 inches.)
Add 1 inch to the bottom of the rectangle for hem allowance and 5/8 inch seam allowance to the side of the rectangle opposite the end marked cut on fold.
