Sometimes on a vacation you just want to escape to another world. Or maybe you need a different style of dress—something away from your office get-up or perhaps more conservative than your usual beach fare. Sometimes you’re going from winter to summer. And then you need a two-hour travel skirt. It’s quick to make and cheap to buy so you don’t have to worry about what happens to it after (or during) your holiday. And the best part is that it could just be that perfect thing to get you in that vacation state of mind.
Material Notes
3/4yd elastic; 1 yd 60" wide lightweight shirting, printed all the way up to the selvadge (no white stripe at the edge). Note: to get my look, choose a print with a varied design along one end.

i haven’t but it would definitely be doable (it just might take longer than 2 hours)

I was wondering if the width of the skirt (waist) is 60 inches or 36 inches (the 1 yd)?

60" wide. alternately, you could use two yards of narrower fabric. this would even alow you to mix and match patterns rather than finding a fabric that has a decorative border

Hi, thanks so much for giving us this pattern. Just joined here and I am blown away by the contributions that sewers make to this site. I just wanted to ask, on the webpage where I originally saw your skirt listed I saw that it said “copyright free”. So I just want to check with you if you allow the sale of the finished product? Thanks Jen

Very practical and pretty too, but I am dying to ask… where was that?! I love the setting of your pics and I am very curious to know where they were taken, is that somewhere in Spain? Can’t be Mexico, which I know you are fond of (read it in your blog) I’ve never seen such Architecture in Mexico. Anyways, beautiful skirt, and beautiful place… now I want to travel too sigh

it is Mexico, actually! these pics were taken in Chiapa de Corzo, Chiapas. the structure in the first pic was built around the time the Spanish were first there, though, so good guess either way!

Never been to Chiapas, shame on me, cause I am from Mexico, that’s why I was instantly drawn to your pics.
I am taking note of your very pretty skirt and save the pattern for when the weather here (Canadian winters, argh) inspires me to sew summer clothes. Thanks for replying.

yeah unfortunately even San Cristobal was too cold for this skirt, but Chiapa de Corzo is a little lower elevation and i got to wear it after all. back to the california cold now (if you can believe that).
