Burda Style For people who sew

I have had the Pattern Magic books for ages (well, 1 and 2 anyway – 3 is out this month) but like a lot of people I was flummoxed as to how to actually use them.

Last September I attended a great course at Morley College (in south London) based on the books and how to use them. This is my first wearable result of that course.

This is based on a project in book 1 called the Twist Top. You draft the top yourself and then skew the block you have made. Once you have that you stick two of the blocks together to make up your one piece pattern.

Mine looks somewhat different to the version in the book – I think the fabric I used is a little heavy and it has resisted the twist – trying to pull itself back straight – but that gives it quite a cool asymmetric-ness.

I’ve been on a second weekend based on the books so I really have no excuse not to get going on more of the wonderful creations in the books.

A cheap ribbed jersey from East Street Market – at least I think it is jersey – it doesn’t seem to stretch too much
