Description

This is a version of the 12/2012 tweed dress. I omitted the zips on the sleeves and made them shorter instead. I also lined the sleeves fully, as I find wool fabric a bit itchy. I crocheted the collar from cotton yarn and stitched it on instead of making a removable lace collar. (You can find the pattern on Ravelry here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/crochet-peter-pan-collar – I made it in two halves to accomodate the zipper & still have a Peter Pan-type front.)

I had to take in the dress significantly at the waist – it’s hard to tell on the model in Burda’s photo, but there is really no fitting at all in the bodice, apart from the horizontal bust darts. It’s intentional, but I found that taking it in a further 2 inches gave it a nicer shape while still keeping that loose, slightly boxy fit. If I make it again, I’ll put in some darts at the waist. (The zip is a little wonky-looking now – I need to learn to be patient & make a muslin first!)

Another thing to note: according to the measurements on the pattern I should have cut out the size 12, but the 10 actually fitted me. The sleeves were pretty tight from above the elbow down, though.

Material Notes

I used a medium-weight 100% wool tweed, and fully lined it so it wouldn’t itch me later. (Oddly enough, the pattern doesn’t have lined sleeves, which I found strange for a pattern intended for wool tweed.)

I love it. Great job on the collar, it looks delicate and suits the dress really well. Wish there was a close up of the collar though

Thank you! I’ve added some collar photos now. I’ve since put a thin satin bow at the centre but haven’t gotten around to taking a proper picture yet.

I had the same problem with bodice fitting for this pattern. I just haven’t take pictures yet.

Yeah it’s a bit strange, isn’t it? I mean, I know what they were going for, but it just looked huge when I made it first, even though it fitted on the shoulders.

Yes, I agree it was really huge! But I left it as it is anyway and now I am loughing that it’s my future pregnancy dress :)))
