It’s no secret we love capes here at BurdaStyle, so we turned to our favorite cape pattern to create this week’s project. If you’ve never donned a cape, maybe now is the time, they are a bit dramatic and can enhance your outfit in a flash. But all the fun in making this one was in the fabric, lining and trim, thanks to Britex Fabrics, a San Francisco retail fabric landmark and a must-see for designers, sewers, DIYers and anyone seeking sewing inspiration.
We cut the body from a turquoise wool tweed which is subtly flecked in a melange of colors like cobalt and creme. The plum colored lining— an Armani silk remnant adds a pop of floral and color, and the vintage wagon wheel buttons seal the deal, making this our favorite by far!

I’ve had this cape bookmarked, and seeing it again reminds me that I need to make it for this Fall. I love it. I do think I prefer the original version with a smaller collar. But my daughter might like this larger collar even more. Lovely turquoise!
