I got the fabric for this dress in a market in Istanbul. The markets there are WONDERFUL. Tables heaped up with fabric with the sellers lying or standing on top of it! You point to the stuff you want if you can’t reach it and then you haggle over the price. I love it!
I packed very light on that trip so I could fill my backpack up with fabric, bias binding, zips and other sewing bits and bobs. Istanbul is my sewing paradise….
I used Burda pattern 7829. This is my favourite pattern ever. I have made at least eight dresses using this….

I brought back too much stuff…. That trip was last summer and I am still working my way through it all. I bought 175 metres of bias binding, lots of pretty printed cotton, denim. Metres and metres of fabric… I want to go back for more though!

Yippee – I am moving to Istanbul in 7 weeks and looking forward to checking out the fabric markets .
I know this street – it’s Bankalar Caddesi – Bankers Street – near the ferry terminal at Karakoy

I’m kinda envious of the fact that you are moving there. I was thinking about doing that last year but then I changed my mind.
