Final project for my modelagem class in Rio… modern gown inspired by the final imperial ball on Ilha Fiscal in 1889 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Design was created by pinning ribbon to a dress form then draping pieces of fabric and using chalk to mark the pattern.
Blue bodice, I think a satin silk blend, with princess lines. Skirt made with layers of tule, organza and chiffon of grey and navy. I first used a layer of navy chiffon, then 2 layers of navy tule, followed by 1 piece of silver metallic organza, and lastly 2 more pieces of navy tule. Unfortunately my navy invisible zipper broke and I had to use a white one that was left over in the lab since I had no time left!
