since it’s summertime here i made up a pair of shorts to get a feel for the whole pants making thing. i used mccalls 5391 as it was about the most RTW looking i could find. still it lacked things such as a fly facing and welt pockets, so i had to draft and add those myself. i fail to understand why such things are not included in sewing patterns! the fit was pretty good straight out of the envelope, i lengthened the front rise by a small amount and added some room through the backside.
ultimately, this is a pretty good pattern and i would take the time to perfect it for future use, but sewaholic just released a proper trouser and shorts combo pattern (with all the features this one is lacking…) and i plan to start over using that as soon as it hits my doorstep!
