Burda Style For people who sew
Description
Another installment from my Marilyn pattern variation series; a cross between Thai fish pants, serouel and tailored trousers. Easy pull on and off without button nor zipper. I only walked 500 metres wearing them so I won’t garantee they will sit neatly in place around the waist. I will sew snap fasteners inside the pleat to add extra ‘security’ (the pants down business). Anyway, they won’t go any further my hips unless someone pulls real hard!. I tried to figured out how Anne Valrie Hash trousers were constructed from a picture found in a magazine (Grazia, February 2010). I started with the template I previously used for Triptych 1/3 (Drape Drape 1- pattern 1). While completing the garment, Burdamagazine published an interesting pattern: http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns/082010-trousers-with-front-pleat, which construction is cunning. It could have spared me some time in the making. I am planning to adjust my pattern accordingly: for instance widening the legs. Also, the waist curve might scoop too much, and it is also slightly too high. The side pockets are too narrow to slip my hand-room for improvement! In my opinion, the whole garment could gain sophistication if the pleat section was only wrapping the hip rather than ‘diving’ along the leg. I will further my adjustments using heavy duty corduroy this time and cut oversized button holes at waist level to accommodate a belt. I like manageable and sturdy fabric. This gabardine creases like hell and this colour is really unpractical (stain magnet). The first picture might be blurry but I couldn’t face going through another ironing endeavour nor another self timer/ tripod photo-shoot session….gggrrrrrhhh! Gabardine has obviously put my patience to the test!

Nice trousers, I think they look very good. Don’t mind about the creases, these trousers can be worn casual. If you make them in another kind of fabric they will look completely different, so its a good patern you made! Istead of buttons you can also use ribbon, when you close it in front in a bow it can look very smart!

You’ve done it again! Making a pair of trousers without all of those pesky buttons and zippers would be a dream come true for someone like me who has such little free time to sew. I always look forward to your projects and these are definitely unique and stylish!

Thanks and sorry I got carried away trying to apply words to the whole process when a simple sketch explains it all. And if Lauriana accommodated this lack: all good! It is hard to describe a procedure inside a comment box when a ‘How to’ could be posted! And what can I say in regard to THE wrap: trust the wisdom of my old age: and remember:EXplore EXperiment (I am hypnotizing you…on the count of 5-4—3-2—1…Wrap!) :)
Anyway I am sure these type of trousers suit you very well. I am a short person that didn’t put me off the ’pant-tent effect (I have to warn you this is really silly) and it is better to watch the whole episode to put it in context! Mon dieu, quel blabla again!!!I wrap it upx

Pajama would do! :) Once I reap them off to alter the pattern I will sew them back for that purpose!Some people get their daily morning bread and newspaper in pajamas, so can I!

Nice… I actually like the pleat going down the leg. And the high waist. At first, I thought the pattern would be a milder version of what I made for my wrap trousers back in summer. I blogged about it with a picture of the pattern here

oh, I forgot: How did you manage that part where you normally sew the zipper? I tried to “leave that out” once and made some wrapping instead because the pattern was too large anyway…but the whole thing just ’didn’t close’ especially when sitting. And I’ve had that “hip-diving” problem too. Sewing’s really a science ;)))

This style suits you really well. Would really like the Marlene Dietrich Style to your bodyshape and type!!! What I really don’t like is the lenght of these trousers. In germany we call this pants: ‘Carotte’ ! That is true! ;) I wore them in the 80th, but today nevermore! ;) (My english is bad… I failed to read your describing text up to now… . Sorry!)

Ja, genau: Karotte = Kaninchen Futter = Möhre. Die Bezeichnung bzieht sich auf die Karottenfrom einer solchen Hose. :-)

I like the wrapping in the waist but think that something needs to be done with the legs, maybe narrowing them … And love the idea about the corduroy – think it will look very interesting!

Lookin’ great Carotte! The style really suits you. You can play further more with legs’ length. You should try using some striped fabric – it would accentuate an unusual pleating and shape of the pants.
