I saw this scrap quilting idea on the blog site ‘Crazy mom quilts’. Who doesn’t have a ton of scraps?? So I went through my boxes and hauled out the right colours and got scrapping. Unfortunately it didn’t dent the scraps as much as I had hoped but it’s good to know there are ways to bust stashes!
This is a baby quilt so it is not very big… maybe just as well, all those scraps make your head spin a bit!! It was the first time I used bias binding that was pre-bought… I am not normally so lazy but I just wanted to get it done. The heat at the moment in Berlin was awful and the thought of cutting and ironing the bias makes me want to break out in a sweat!!
It is also a new way of quilting… triangles. I had no idea really how to make it- a rough insight from the ‘crazy mom quilts’ site. I should really get a book!! But over all it worked out well. It needs a press and some bits are not perfect… but hey, if the baby can spot it I will be impressed!!!
I used really tiny seams…. I think it would work normally but with the mix of materials not a good plan!
Scraps, lots and lots of scraps. I also used interfacing on the back of all the squares to help the structural mix of fabrics... some were stronger some were weaker. It helped a lot but I still got some freying from the worst materials- I think that was to do with the small seams more than the interfacing.
