Description

Made using Burdastyle Magazine 8/2009, skirt 107; in sturdy khaki cotton. All the raw edges are finished in HongKong seaming on the inside. I love the military styling on this skirt, the topstitching and welt pocket details and how it is right on trend for the current fashion for trench-coats.

Material Notes

khaki cotton, bias strips of leftover pink cotton for HongKong seaming, 8 buttons

Difficulty

Intermediate

I really love the ‘military’ style about it. The fabric is very good for that with that kind of ripstop characteristics. Your craftsmanship is immaculate as always, I in awe because of the Hongkong seams. Amazing.

That looks fantastic! I can’t imagine how much patience the Hong Kong seams took.

I love this!! I have always admired this skirt in this issue (it’s a classic) but worried about choosing something crisp enough for it to look well. What is the makeup of your fabric?

Thankyou! The fabric I used is a 100% cotton drill, medium weight and (yes) quite crisp and stiff. The label described it as “ribstop” cotton. I also used it in beige to make a trench coat, and it worked well for that application too.
