New York, New Yo...
Back in the late 80s and early 90s, MC Hammer was the man. No, DA MAN!
Between 1987 and 1991, virtually everyone was emulating his high-energy, aerobic dance moves seen in music videos for songs like “Addams Groove” and “U Can’t Touch This.” His music personified free-spirited party rap.
And then, of course, was his fashion. Harem trousers, padded suit jackets and gold chains matched his unconventional swagger. It was an infectious combination.
For this week’s Project of the Week, the hey day of Hammer returns. David, our Social Media and Member Services Coordinator, collaborated with Jamie to create a pair of Hammer-esque pants using burda style magazine’s 5/2010 Harem Trousers with side tie. David is 6 feet tall, so we took a pair of pants and measured the length to adjust and elongate the pattern. The end result is less cropped than the original pattern.
We also used a light cotton instead of the recommended jersey fabric, and tailored the pant waist to fit his measurements.
Now, David is ready to turn this mutha out, as seen in the project images. Enjoy!
30 select jacket and coat patterns are now marked down to $3.99.
