When we went back and published the French Traveler patterns from an old issue of burda style magazine, I knew I had to make the Illusion Neckline Dress! I love illusion necklines, and the photography for this pattern really drew me in. I have been holding on to this Liberty printed cotton from Britex Fabrics for a while now. I got it in San Fransisco with Jamie when we went there to promote the new book…I literally bought it 20 min before I left for the airport!
I wanted a simple design to showcase the printed fabric (it’s a neon graphic of the Tokyo skyline). So I thought the Illusion Dress was perfect, since it had only only style line. I omitted the waist elastic casing an inseam pockets to reduce bulk. Next time I wear this dress I will probably belt it to give it better shape. To pair with the printed fabric I got a green silk chiffon from Mood Fabrics. I originally went there to buy a black sheer fabric, but I just loved how the green complemented the print. I bought pre-made white bias tape to bind the armhole, back key-hole and neckline edges. I really love how it turned out.
With the dress I am wearing a pair of leggings that I made from our Carol Leggings pattern. These leggings fit wonderfully! I love how this pattern doesn’t have a side seam so it is so smooth to wear on the legs. These leggings are made in an iridescent metallic spandex I found at Spandex World (favorite place). I found the pattern to be a bit tall so I had to take off about 2" from the top, but overall I really like this pattern and will definitely be making more leggings…so stay tuned!
