Yesterday was convocation at church and the theme was black and white, so I was in desperate need to design something.
This lovely dress has such a profound story behind it. I went fabric searching and was so frustrated when I could not find a decent black and white fabric. I stumbled upon these pieces of chiffon in a pound box and was immediately drawn to them. The white measure 1/2 inch and has many tiny dots and bows and the black about 1 1/4 yd which has oval shapes and lightly silver stripes. I then buy about 2 yd black lightweight jersey. The burda high low dress from March 2012 readily came to mind as the base and my own added style to go along with it. The jersey is used as the base/lining and the chiffon were place on top of it.
The final style is a high low dress with pleated short sleeve and a wrap overlay at the back. The shape of the the hem was modified by making the back a V shape instead of round and the front was slightly flat across instead of this deep upside U shape. I place black insets at the both sides for added ease since I was never intended to use any zipper. The skirt is join to the top at the front and is only join to the back at the side giving the illusion of beak a boo effect. Nine beads are sewn on the front neckline for finishing touches.
Overall I am so happy with the result of the design. What is your take on it?
