This is an adaptation I created from the Vogue Vintage Model #2494 pattern of an original 1948 design.
As soon as I saw this pattern, I had visions of tiki parties and sipping mai tais while looking absolutely fabulous. Any dress with an attached cape means instant fabulousness.
I made the entire dress from vintage 1960s cotton fabric as well as all vintage notions. I modified the pattern by drafting a pattern for an attached tie belt in the front to accentuate the hourglass shape of the dress, and I did away with all of the buttons in the back and went for a single button and open keyhole back. There is so much hand stitching in this dress I think my hands did more work than my sewing machine!
Exotic prints and silhouettes combine for this alluring collection
