This is my second project made using ties bought from op-shops (thrift/charity stores) after my ’don’t tie this at home’ dress I made a few years ago. After that experience and the difficulty of working out how to do the bodice I’d sworn to never do it again, but then I was filling in time one day and found a bunch of ties with animals printed on them and I just can’t resist kitsch, so decided to make a skirt. A skirt is actually very easy to make out of ties – just cut them off to the length you want, sew the sides together, some bias binding for the waistband and a zipper in the back. Easy and quick.
Almost by accident I managed to have a clear colour scheme for this skirt – it seems animal print ties are almost always either blue or yellow. It also means this skirt is more wearable than my tie dress.
