I really loved the dress on the last picture in the FW 2010 show from Valentino (photo credit to InStyle), which inspired me to do a similar skirt. I drafted the pattern myself, from a simple hemi-circular skirt (with no darts) and made three tiers. I also modified the back to have it longer than the front, in the same way that the original dress did.
I used facings for the scalloping, and a really useful tutorial from the Coletterie blog. I have constructed the tiers directly onto the lining. I Where I could improve is the closures: putting the invible zipper gave me lots of trouble and it’s still a bit bubbly but I am really happy with the overall cute (but not too much) aspect of the dress and I only used a wool remnant (about 85cm by 150cm) from a previous project to construct the skirt. The fabric is not as sheer as the photos seem to show.
Ivory wool challis, ivory lining, ivory invisible zip.

I would improve it by making the back smooth. Put the seams on the side, including the zipper. Just my opinion. I think its beautiful!! great job

Great idea, I hadn’t thought of that (I basically did exactly the same back than the original). Although I am not quite sure I had enough fabric to follow this great suggestion.
