I found this wonderful tutorial for a simple canvas tote bag on design sponge. I love this website. There are so many, many beautiful and inspiring projects to discover. And it serves lots of DIYs. So if you are looking for a self made present for anybody, I can only advise you to look there.
This minimalist tote bag tutorial is provided by Renske from Den Haag. She is a really talented seamstress and you can admire her creations on her blog ‘The dress I made’. I am really inspired by her mission, which is to sew her whole wardrobe herself. Since I have started to sew, my whole fashion shopping attitude has changed, too.
Anyway, here comes my seamstress version of Renske’s minimalist tote bag. I love this bag’s holding and closing mechanism. As soon as one picks the handle, the bag closes itself!
I made some alterations. I did not have any rivets, so I decided to simply sew the leather handles on the bag with several stitches. In addition to this I used the same leather as for the handles for the bag’s bottom. This serves for a better standing and a nice look.
