This one is the start of a princess dress that I haven’t made yet. A local bridal fabric store went out of business last month and I picked up super cheap bridal satin with the intent of making a princess dress up dress. I realized, I needed a pattern for a dress though. I found this super easy dress pattern and fell in love with it (It’s So Easy It’s Simplicity 2675). I even bought this fabric in the same shopping trip. It sat in my sewing room for about a month and my daughter kept asking when I was making it. I finally relented and it took me less than a week to cut and put together (that’s fast for me- I rarely seem to have time).
The pattern called for a “flower” for the front- no instructions or indication of what kind of flower. I knew I wanted a fabric one and needed a tutorial (I knew there were lots around so I wasn’t worried). I happened to treat myself to the January 2011 BurdaStyle magazine and a tutorial for this flower was in there. Nice when things work out that way! I found the fabric for the flower (chiffon??) in the bargain section on a second visit to the fabric store. Because of the unfinished edges of the flower, and that the dress is for a preschooler, I need to be able to take the flower off for washing the dress. I sewed on a snap to snap it on and off. So far, it works like a charm.
When I asked my daughter to put on the dress for pictures this morning, she promptly put it on and stood proudly by the wall without me having to ask. The only problem is that I haven’t made the matching bag included with the pattern and she has been asking for it. One of these days…
just over 1m of printed cotton (45" wide), 1/2 m plain cotton (for lining bodice), 2 1/2 metres of 3/8" cream coloured ribbon, thread, 12" zipper, about 1/4 m gauzy fabric (chiffon ??) for flower

Thanks! I realized after I posted it that I didn’t wind up with a great front picture of it. Oh well…
