I’ve made this dressy tunic some time around January, but forgot about it, mainly due to the frosty weather we had here after the New Year. But they are saying on the weather broadcast that it’s going to be warm on Saturday, even +16 or something like that :O So, it was high time I took this bright garment from the depths of my wardrobe (and took some pictures of it, too).
The dress was made using the same pattern as my stripped tunic, only extended to knee high. My sewing machine was having a nervous breakdown at that time, so I had to handstitch the neckline (I’ve used an invisible stitch and was happy with the clean result). Two side pockets and no zip, once again :) But I’ve made an epic fail… The back is made out of four parts (two horizontal and two vertical), but I should have better listened to common sense than to the instructions in the magazine, because the vertical seam in the back is completely unnecessary and rather spoils the back view :/ You live and learn, eh.
And it’s a fact that I’m going to use this pattern again and again and again, because it’s so comfy and versatile ;)
P.s. The fabric’s truly jolly and reminds me of women in my country, about 30-40 years ago, that used to go picking vegetables in the fields, during the summer. So, naturally, I’m looking for potatoes in the sky in the last photo ;)

Ignoring the original instructions in the magazines adds so much fun! I hate zippers with passion, so if I can get away without using a zip, I will do my utmost to skip it.

I like to feel comfortable in my clothes and a zip usually means some restrictions… so, yes, it’s better without it, I supposse :)

Love this! It looks great on you and the fabric is amazing! Where did you find it? It looks very vintage.

Oh, yes. I never get suntanned, so bright colours do fit my pale complection well ;)
The fabric’s thrifted woven cotton, so it might as well be vintage, after all. It was very stiff when bought, but became much softer after washing. And, as I mentioned above – it DOES remind me of my grandmother’s dresses, both the pattern and the fabric itself.
