The walk away.

DescriptionThis is my first shot at the walk away dress butterick b4790 and I’m fairly pleased with how its turned out! I followed edelweiss blog instructions as to how to get a better fit http://www.edelweisspatterns.com/blog/?p=552. This is because butterick re-drafted the original 50’s pattern to fit a modern day figure…BADLY I might add…..but I’ve found this to be the case with many re-printed vinatge designs..they seem to turn them into big baggy messes.
I found a lovely bird silloette pattern for £3 pm which is great since this pattern does go away with at least 4mtrs of fabric.
If you want to make this dress I strongly recommend making up a mock up first for the front panel and back piece (you dont need to do the back skirt panel) to get a better fit otherwise you’ll end up with a very baggy unflattering bodice. I’m a size 12 uk and I used the size 8 for the neck/arms and bust and graded it to a size 12 for the waist…it free on the hips so I just stuck with the 12.
