Description

This project has a silly beginning. I got a summer job in a department store and the dress code is all black and I realized that while it’s a miracle my black tights last as long as they do, I don’t actually own that much black clothing. Of course, I finished this skirt about two weeks before I go back to school…but that’s beside the point.

I’ve been holding on to this black brocade for about a year thinking I would made a nice blazer out of it. Then the flared godet skirt popped up and I just HAD to make it. Knowing that I wasn’t going to be making a blazer this summer, I decided to use the brocade. I made the “wrong side” of the fabric the right side and couldn’t be happier with the result. I love the fullness and absolutely adore the pockets! It’s the first skirt I’ve fully lined too.

Note: the only pattern changes I made were to switch the button front for a single panel (putting in a back zipper) and to shorten it

Material Notes

The skirt is beautiful, love how you didn’t do buttons in front and added a zipper to the back. The fabric is perfect!

Thank you! I actually hadn’t planned on skipping the buttons but once I started putting the pattern together I thought the fabric would work better with a plain panel.

SImply inspiring. The fabric, its drape and perfect details. What a lovely pattern made up perfectly by a competent woman. You made an excellent decision.

Thank you! I’m really happy with the drape of it. I’ve gotten so used to my knit skirts/dresses that this is a welcome change.
