The pattern comes from the fantastic Weekend Sewing by the incomparable Heather Ross. The fabric, I picked up somewhere between Tabora and Kigoma in Tanzania, where I was busy walking from one shore (the Indian Ocean, in Bagamoyo) to another (Kigoma, on the shores of Lake Tanganyika).
I actually kept the fabric jealously hoarded for over a year before finally finding the perfect pattern. I think I was right to wait. Blog post here: http://corvustristis.wordpress.com/2010/01/26/long-awaited-project-by-me-at-least/

GAH! That is such a good idea…I stacks of fabric I’ve packed away from Uganda but the “waxclothness” of them have left me really perplexed about what I should do with them. A skirt. Duh.
Beautiful, beautiful print! If this was in a yard sale, a mall, or even a small boutique in Tanzania, I’d buy it in less than a heartbeat. Great realization of such great fabric _
