Burda Style For people who sew
Description
This was my first attempt at sewing velvet, and aside from the scary tendency that velvet has to wriggle during sewing I’m really happy with the result. The contrast under the brim is some random stuff I haven’t touched since I was 17 (I don’t even remember what it was, but I like the effect of the black coming through the cream with the spot detail). And seeing as it’s winter here in NZ I lined it with some merino wool knit to keep it snuggly!
I think the thing that takes this hat from standard to seriously cute is the dragonfly brooch, which was hanging around the house not getting used. I love it! I would love to make one of these hats in a dark forest green velvet as well…
Oh, and while this pattern comes in French and I don’t have an ounce of knowledge of the French language in me the pattern was so easy I could figure it out by myself. It’s a seriously fun pattern and will be done in under an hour!
Material Notes
Some cotton velvet pinched from my Mum’s massive fabric collection… she was about to throw it out for lack of use!
