Description

This is my first attempt at working with knits (trial run on another crappy piece of fabric notwithstanding) and I couldn’t be more happy with it.

I have had to go easy on myself and accept that the inside just won’t be pretty when I’m sewing with this kind of fabric. I am without a serger, and while I want to create myself an autumn wardrobe full of comfy, versatile, stretchy pieces, my machine seems to think this is a poor idea indeed and is hellbent on spoiling my fun by mangling each and every seam. Never mind. I will press on!

I did, however manage to (almost) match the stripes on the sides. Win!

I love the colours and the print- I feel very cute and somewhat sixties. And french?

Material Notes

Cotton lycra blend? Unsure. Market purchase.

I love this top so much – you have inspired me – I am about to sew the dress version of this. I am new to sewing and have been going for lessons – my teacher has always told me the most important item is the needles you us – so if you have a universal needle in the machine, maybe swop it for a stretch stitch needle, this will stop the material from getting stuck in the feeder (hope this helps)

Having said that – I love the material you have used and the colours, I hope mine comes out as nice as yours – well done and what an inspiration you are xxx Nikki

I love this – I hear you with regard to knits. My machine is a 1970s Kenmore that does do a “serging” stitch but still manages to suck the fabric into the feed dogs. I did buy a special foot for working with that particular stitch and it does make a difference. although it will never look professional.

This is so cute! Love the fabric!

Just lovely Darl – and from what I see you did a good job of aligning the stripes. This is a lovely fabric with both stripes and flowers – and you look so gorgeous in it! I too felt the “Sixties French” vibe Darl (and that was before I read what you had written at the bottom!!). Crack open some bubbly and enjoy I say!

Thank you so much! It’s my new favourite. :) Next: a cowl neck dress, while I’m on a roll!
P.S. Your red cape is just smashing.
