So this is my first completed project. I made this as a gift for my sister. I have never sewn anything really before.. haha
It was challenging!!
with the advice of katensew I made a corset and everything as separates. I wanted to create a jacket but didn’t have time..
This isn’t perfect nor how I dreamed it would be but it was a great learning experience haha (especially trying to create it to her measurements without her being here! :P
I used a pattern for the skirt from Simplicity and modified it.. I also found instructions online on how to make the petticoat.

I’m sure I commented on this, but I don’t see it anywhere. It must have gotten lost in those ‘400 Bad request’ errors I get on the site all the time :(
Anyway… dude, seriously. Are you out of your mind? Making a dress like that as your first sewing project? Either you are incredibly brave and have talent oozing out of your pores, or you are the most ignorant lucky guy on the face of the planet.
I kinda know it’s the former, so I’m very much looking forward to your future work!

Yeah, I dont really have any men to sew for haha Plus I’ve been losing weight so there’s not point in sewing for myself right now :P

I think we need some sort of a man-only virtual sewing club, but we should obviously give it a cooler name ;)
Nothing against the ladies, but as a minority we have to stick (stitch) together :)

I agree, it’d be nice to have a men’s sewing club haha.. We should make it happen!

For a first project, I must say you have done a wonderful job. The outfit looks lovely on your sister. I wish I had taught my brothers to sew. :)

I think you did a really good job. It looks great. However, the seam down the middle of the corset is a little distracting. Perhaps that could have been one piece with a faux seam. I like it a lot.

lol I forgot to buy and use a corset busk… and when I realized after sewing.. I was like..oh well :P
I suppose I could have just cut out one piece haha Didn’t think about it.

Well, we live and we learn. It’s happened to me too. Regardless, it looks great. Awesome job!

I definitely learned a lot on this dress..hence why it’s called the stress dress lol it stressed me out!! :P

You are a very sweet boy to make this for your sister – who looks absolutely beautiful in it. For a first project you certainly set the bar very high with corsets etc – but you have done a fabulous job. I love what you have done with the layers – just beautiful.
I look forward to seeing future creations!
