Here is afore mentioned boxy jacket from Vogue pattern #1137.
I had a lovely brown silky velvet with small blue spots I had been keeping for a special occasion and thought that this would be it! The style is inspired by an episode of the House of Eliot, where one of the sisters was wearing a coat which was beige on the top of the body and the top of the sleeves and navy all below. I used a navy velveteen for the bottom half. The jacket is VERY wide and the cuffs are quite close fitting. This combination of material was perhaps not the best idea as one is quite stiff and the other very floppy. I also lined the jacket in a completely non matching OTT butterfly printed cotton voile (a slippery lining would have been better…but a little more boring:)). The main issue I have with it is that there is no closure and I did not used the suggested hair canvas for the front facing. Still, I am glad I attempted to sew velvet!
