Last semester in my design class we were told for the final project that we had to create, develop, and market a product that serves two basic, yet unrelated purposes. At first my group planned on developing a rainjacket that turned into a pillow, yet after much research we decided to switch to a more fashion forward jacket that turned into a pillow, and after much pattern searching, fabric searching, getting 5 people to agree on something, and 2 days straight of myself and another girl sewing like madwomen, we had the RELAX-IT!
This jacket is chic, light, and still warm with its candy apple red color and houndstooth lining, reminiscent of fall, especially with the lights wooden buttons bordering the front and back bottom. The main focus of this product was to market to the on-the-go girl, whether that be on a flight, a road-trip, a weekend festival, or a chilly fall afternoon, wear it as a cute jacket and when you get tired just fold, fold, and flip it inside out! It was very easy to assemble, considering I had never made a jacket, lined anything, or worked with a serger, yet the end product was a hit!
Once our presentation on the Relax-it was underway, there were countless ooh’s and aah’s as we showed the versatility, style, and comfort that were all contained in this one piece, and thankfully there was an A in my future!
Outside of jacket is twill canvas, lined with cotton houndstooth. Pilllow constructed of yellow twill canvas, wooden buttons, and quilting fluff to give that extra plush feel.

The idea is fantastic (although quite out there!) but that’s what fashion is all about. The red and houndstooth lining is divine.
