Burda Style For people who sew
Description
I had this idea in my sketchbook for a while. The whole project is inspired by the fabric I used for lining the hood. My grandmother gave me this crazy patterned polyester fabric. While I loved the colors I thought the pattern would just be too “ugly” to make an entire garment from it and too nice to just hide it inside a garment as a lining. So I came up with the idea of this pink sweater with a lined hood.
The pattern is based on an old hoodie I had lying around. I spend a lot of time this year on my applications for design universities. So it felt really good and relaxing to create something just for fun.
The knit was perfect for this – very nice and easy to sew.

Very nice! How did you create the pattern?? I have bought nice fabric to make a zippered hoodie but I don’t really know how to create the pattern :-)…

I had an old hoodie that I just lay flat on a large sheet of paper. Then I carefully traced every pattern piece with a pen. The pattern was actually quite simple – the back and front pieces were the same and the sleeve piece was “mirrored” so I could cut it on the fold.
Of course when you trace a pattern this way you don’t get it an inch-perfect copy of your garment. So after tracing you have to make sure all the pieces will match when finally sewn together (i.e. the hood on the sweater). My sewing teacher helped me a little bit but it is really much easier than I thought especially when using a simple pattern like this one.
