The Persistence of Memory Romper

Added May 13, 2011

by evamarie

Selestat, France

A very comfortable romper based on a McCall’s pattern from 1994. I used a vintage viscose fabric with an interesting warp/waft print. I covered the buttons with it, too. Making collars always scares me. I’m always elated when I turn it right-side-out with nervousness, and there it is, all clean and neat!

Material Notes

Spring, Fall
Garment Type
Bohemian, Grunge

Love that style. Looks laid back and that is me for sure.

As soon as I saw this I wanted one. Then I saw what pattern you used and I thought “Oh my God, I actually have this pattern!” It’s been sitting in my pattern stash for 15 years and I’ve never used it! Had I known the end results would have looked like this I would have made it up yonks ago. Oh the time I’ve wasted :( Just curious, did you make any adjustments at all?

hahaha that’s funny! It’s an easy one to overlook! Can’t wait to see your rendition! Adjustments: I made view D and left off the sleeves, added a small snap at the waistline seam to keep this area secure and made the gathers smaller on the backside.

Oh, this is terrific. Great pattern, and good work on the collar. You wear it well – I always end up looking sackish in loose items like this. Or maybe it’s the shoes!

Thanks Eleanor! I agree that the potential for this slipping into sackville is huge and I think the shoes do help!
