Burda Style For people who sew
Description
This is actually not my own design, it’s a copy of a shrug I got a few years ago at one of the big highstreet clothing chains. It’s quite a clever design though!
The pattern is basically a T, and there are only two seams. It folds perfectly flat, and it’s actually a nice shrug too!
I’ve graded the pattern to fit size 30-46, see the size-chart on the pattern and in the instructions to be sure about the size (it’s slightly different from the Burdastyle size chart).
Material Notes
Cotton jersey, a GENUINE 1980’s fabric that I got in the early 90’s, left at my parents place when I moved out, and then forgot about. My mum gave it to me this easter and it’s actually back in fashion again!
I love the colour and it’s very comfortable to wear.
The best thing? I’ve got a few meters of it…. :-)

Has anyone tried this in stretch lace for an evening cover-up? (like Giselle stretch lace from fabric.com). I may give it a go.

Hey, does it really need to be a stretchy fabric? I have this perfect absolutely no-no-strech-at-all that I’d like to turn into a shrug

Yes, I think it does. The sleeves will turn out too tight in a woven fabric, but if you tweak the pattern a bit it might work. Good luck!

The measurements are in cm’s, there are great conversion-tools online if you need it in inches or something else. Good luck!

made this today and love it best part it only took about 20 mins! added bonus i used material from an odds bin and a bit of lace to trim so it only cost £1.59 :o)

I love this, I’m going to try to crochet one. I have no jersey in my fabric stash, but crochet or knit right, it should have enough stretch. Thank you for sharing this perfect pattern.

Ah! Of course, that’s like the obvious idea for a beginner knitter like me, I knit scarves only. A square piece for a shrug would be the perfect step two (I have made mittens before). Thanks for mentioning it, I didn’t think of it myself.
