Butterick 5209, Retro 1947: MISSES’ DRESS: Halter or cap sleeve dress, below mid-knee length, has side zipper, fitted self-lined bodice and flared, gathered skirt.
The step by step instructions are well thought out and include great diagrams so that anyone with a bit of sewing experience will do just fine with this pattern.
I absolutely love the look of this pattern. I am pleased that I decided to go for the sleeved version.
I added my standard 3/4" to the torso length. I also substituted an invisible zipper for the suggested standard zipper. If I was to make this up again, I would make sure to place the side zipper a bit higher (closer to the armhole) to make it easier to get in and out of!
I am sure that I will pull this pattern out again at some point in the future. For now, there are just too many other projects to complete! But I would highly recommend it.
I love this dress! I think that the fabric really makes it special.
More pictures and information may be found over at my blog, Lilacs & Lace.

Oh this is my favourite dress of the day. I have been waiting for the website to sort out its server problems so I can post a comment to you. Its so beautifully made and so flattering. I love the midriff section. Thank you for relaying how painless it was to put together. I might have to add this to my never ending project list now!
