I work for the Heathlands Project, a social enterprise supporting adults with a learning disability. One of the groups I run (with co artisit and burda member art-owl) is a textile group. I designed this owl pincushion project for the members of the group to allow them to practise some basic skills; pinning, cutting, tacking, machine stitching and handstitch. I chose felt (because the edges don’t fray and I didn’t want to give them too much hemming to start of with) and a choice of fabrics for the belly, which they did have to hem. They’ve produced some fantastic owls, all really individual and full of character!
