Description

Gave this pattern another go, obviously didn’t bother to figure out the sleeves the second time around as well…so, double-beetle effect it is.
Used cheap but lovely fabric from a re-use store, the top part is lined with orange lining material. Didn’t manage to get a good shot of the open back this time either. Oh well, at least there is the usual what-am-I-supposed-to-do-with-this -peculiar-thing photo of me dumbfoundedly staring at my own limb.

Hi! Did you use the boning? I want to make the dress, but the boning is putting me off :)

Hey, I think I bought the boning, but couldn’t be bothered to use it. Might have added some needed structure, because my dress ended up gaping a bit on the sides. But that could just be a pattern peculiarity, bad fitting on my behalf, or general lack of boobage. I hear a few people have had the same issue, though, so be extra attentive of fitting the upper part. Good luck!

I really want to make it, so I think I’ll just make the top super tight :)
How bad is the gaping at the sides?

This is some interesting timing, as I just spent most of the day making this very pattern in white for a friend. And I still didn’t use boning (this thinking things through and making life easier for yourself clearly isn’t my forte).
The gaping really isn’t that bad when you know about the danger. But be sure to take in more of the sides near the armholes and less so at the waist – honestly, the proportions of this pattern remind me of Dolly Parton or Barbie.

Totally found the solution: elastic sides. I made the dress and placed an elastic from mid bust to underarm and worked with the tension of the elastic. Makes it super snug and close to the body!
