Made from Vogue 8307, using a silk boucle from Tessuti whose colour-way is called ‘Octopus’ Garden’. It was a disturbingly loosely woven fabric, so I interfaced and underlined all the bodice and sleeve pieces before putting together, as well as using horsehair canvas to give the collar some structure.
The pattern would have you make a big feature out of three large buttons or toggle closures, but as my fabric is really rather busy, I decided to keep it to hidden snap closures instead. To emphasize the collar which would otherwise become lost against the fabric texture, I added a bias binding trim around all the edges in a matching teal blue dupion. I’m in love with the end result :)

does lining goes up to the lower and sleeve edges, or are there any facing pieces in between? great job, i´m dealing with something alike… such a tricky task

Hi Samuella – I put a facing piece at the sleeves as well, otherwise the sleeve lining might have showed. Cheers, Melanie

i love the trim. it really does set the collar off perfectly. i have a vintage store bought jacket that has nearly the same collar & it closes with large buttons & loops.

Your jacket is beautiful and beautifully made. I think your idea to put dupion silk bias on the edges is brilliant. I have also used a similar fabric to make a suit and I lined the fabric completely with ‘Whisperweft’ before I cut all the pieces out. It gave it body and stopped the fraying and also stopped the skirt from having that seating look when you stood up after sitting down.Enjoy wearing your jacket, it looks great on you.
