Description

My fiance was complaining about not having enough pairs of shorts for this East Coast heat, which seemed to coincide with my guilt about not really making things for him. So from that, these shorts were born. I realize now that you can’t actually tell that these are indeed short-length in any of these photos, so you’ll just have to trust me.

This was my third foray into the world of menswear after my (pretty successful) mens vest and an undocumented (slightly less successful) oxford shirt.

I pretty much followed the directions to a T, apart from the waist band/closure. The fly-front situation was a little sketchy, so I sought outside help. It turned out decently. Overall, I am pretty pleased with myself. And they “fit like a glove” – his words, not mine.

Good pattern, will definitely try again.

The butt shot cracked me up. You did a very nice job! I made a horrendous pair of pajama bottoms for my husband years ago (I didn’t pre-wash, now I ALWAYS do — and the hem rode up several inches, in addition to them being way too wide AND made from skull patterned flannel? He looked like a goofy pirate wearing culottes.) and now he won’t trust me to sew anything for him. Maybe I should just make a nice pair of shorts like these and impress him with my mad sewing skills I’ve gained over the past years. Oh, and I’ll pre-wash the fabric.

    Which pattern did you use?

Haha! Yeah, it’s easy to get discouraged when your attempts to make something nice for your man fall flat. But it’s so worth it when they turn out nicely. Because he can then brag about it in public. (“See these shorts? My lady made me these shorts!”)

The pattern I used is Jochen, which you can get on BurdaStyle.
