Description

Inspired by Mary Tyler Moore on her 70s show – she had such great style, and lately I’m feeling very inspired by the 1970s. The base is Vogue 1219, a vintage Christian Dior pattern from 1975. I made the bodice a little more fitted than the pattern called for – it was pretty tent-like on my as designed. I like the shape – I think it’s classic and retro without making me feel like an air stewardess (a-lines sometimes make me feel that way!) No pockets, but I did make for myself a pretty neck kerchief out of zebra print charmeuse. I’m so pleased to have completed a vintage pattern, as all previous attempts have been sort of disastrous. Now I just have to tackle some of the more vintage patterns in my possession! More details are on my blog: Green Apples

Icky polyester suiting from Joanns... awful stuff to work with, but it looks nice!

    You look so adorable !!!!! (Sexy too! ) (Mary was sexy!) Opening the projects window this morning and saw your image—— Mary TM and Jackie O were my first thoughts and I just had to click! Great job! Looks beautiful and more than anything else you look like you feel good in it and really love it too..

    Lovely colour. And I agree vintage patterns take some getting used to. The bust darts are always what confuses me to most. So pointed and oddly placed. Just finished a 1967 dress pattern too, quite a bit of adjustment to get to where I almost like it, but not quite enough to post pictures yet. ; )
