I’ve developed a button-down obsession! This is view C of Simplicity 2246, with the belt from view B. It was originally shown as a fake skirt/shirt combo, but I chose to make both parts from the same fabric (and added in some pockets). I went up a size, but shortened the length by about 6 inches. You can read more about this project on my blog, Experiments and Accidents.
I used a stretch cotton, but this pattern lends itself to just about anything.

I’ve seen all these shirtwaist dresses break out like nobody’s business during our premature heatwave. I love ‘em. I want one…and I need to make at least two: one in black, another in beige. Then I’d be all set for summer!

Love the dress. Does anyone know of an online fabric site with a good selection of fabrics?

The Lisette patterns have very good instructions with lots of tips for beginners! I think there are several sew-alongs going on with those patterns as well – check out http://beebeesvintagedress.blogspot.com/2011/05/sewalong-it-is-lisette-market-top-start.html

Hmm. Isn’t the back of the pattern a little bit too long for you? But then, I guess it’s not easy to tinker with the proportions on a ready-made pattern, and you certainly did great given the limitations of the pattern!

Thanks! That is a great suggestion. I think because I went up a size in the top that it is a little long in the waist. It’s strange because I made an initial trial one from cotton and it fight just right. Next time!
