Description

A year or so ago I made a little black dress for a Black Tie birthday party. The same people were having a Black Tie ball earlier this month and I couldn’t wear the same thing twice. That said, I didn’t imagine at the start of the project that the only thing that would remain untouched was the zip! The whole dress was gradually unpicked and rebuilt but I won’t miss the original at all… There were two attempts at a skirt (first a tulle overskirt and then a completely new silk and taffeta skirt), the original boning was removed and the bodice (inspired by the 50’s Shelf Bust) was designed to look like a cummerbund.

I may, one day, add a tulle petticoat and I am thinking that in cotton (with a simpler bodice maybe) this would make a very pretty summer dress.

The project can be seen at http://makedoandblog.blogspot.com/search/label/the%20LBD.

Material Notes

Black faux raw silk, black taffeta, boning, zip, lining.
