I really wanted a pair of retro high waist jeans. I thought about using a vintage pattern, but thought that the modern Vogue 8604 might work. It worked so much better than expected – I love, love, love the vintage look, and plan to make these in other colors. I did add boning to the waist to keep the waistband from wrinkling – I used a flexible plastic that you can sew through called Rigeline. Highly recommended pattern, and this style is really flattering to curves! I have more detailed sewing info in my blog post
Lightweight denim from Joanns, and poly charmeuse for the pockets.

On your site you mention being able to see the contrasting pocket lining. . . I thought that was intentional and LOVE it! I’m considering making these as well, with the alterations made by Renee in Seattle. I love me a tie belt.

You look gorgeous! Unfortunately I’m still not brave enough to tackle pants…

I absolutly love these pants! I have been looking for a 30s/40s style trouser for a while, and I just bought this pattern- your version is making me really excited for the final product! I was wondering what size you chose in relation to your measurments to get this fit, because I usually make dresses and measure for bust fit.

I made a size 10, and my measurements are 26.5 waist and 36 hips. The waistband for that size is 27"… you want very little ease in the waist for the fitted style. The hips have about 4" of ease. My measurements were for the same as the ones called for in size 12 I think, but I always size down in these patterns by 1 or 2 sizes. I hope your project goes well – I think they will look great on you!

These denim trousers look fantastic on you. Im just curious to know how comfortable they are to sit in?

They’re pretty comfortable to sit in – the crotch is a bit low, so when you sit the waist scoots up a tiny bit, so the waist isn’t digging into you or anything. The boning is pretty comfortable too – there’s one spot I need to go back and cover the end of, but it bends with you pretty well.

Beautiful trousers and very Katharine Hepburn. The colours in your photos look fantastic, the outfit looks sensational with your hair colour

These are really awesome! I think the high waisted pants can sometimes be one of those things that everyone wants to try but they only flatter a very seldom few… these are wonderfully flattering on you (and you have a great shape) but I agree these look like they’d be really flattering on a variety of body types. Great pockets, great styling in the photos. These are GREAT! well done!

These are incredible. I have been wanting to try and make a high waist pair of jeans but haven’t found a pattern that looks as flattering as these. Thanks for the inspiration!

You should make them – they were so easy and fun to make!

How did I not know this pattern existed?! Your rendition is so, SO unbelieveably chic that my eyes are bulging out of my head. There aren’t many good high waisted pant patterns on the market… and you just proved there is a diamond in the rough! Brava!

These are very nice and look so versatile, dress up or down. Great idea on the waistline boning.
