However rewarding, my (lack of) sewing experience has let me down a few times. I really love all the things I’ve made so far and I wear them all the time, but none of the items I’ve sewn turned out exactly the way I had envisioned. Minor details, of course, and the final product does look good, but upon trying them on for the first time after they were done there was always that second of disappointment or surprise, in which I looked at myself in the mirror and went: “oh… ok.”
But this little black dress was different. I needed a simple, comfortable and easy-to-match dress in my wardrobe, so I decided to design one. I know it’s simple, but I made the pattern myself. I put a lot of loving into sewing it and when I was done and tried it on…. PERFECTION! It was exactly what I had in mind! Exactly what I needed. I am so ridiculously happy with this one – it’s silly.
I love that I can wear it up or down just by changing my accessories.
If I were to change anything, I would maybe add some pockets to it. But instead I might make a new dress in a different color, using the same pattern. We’ll see. For the time being, I am perfectly content with my perfect little dress.

You should be proud, itlooks great and you look great with it on. I just recently completed my first dress and I felt the same way and I still had an imperfect zipper! lol

I know right?! There is something very fulfilling about sewing – it’s really great for the ego! Keep it up and the next few zippers will be flawless!

It looks fab. When I first saw the 1st picture I thought straight away it needs a belt.. When looking at the rest of your pictures I saw that you tried different types of belt with it.. Its so versatile and I love the simplicity it, yet classic and chic and sexy.. Well done.. I love it. :o)

I’m with you, Suri – I’m all for a belt. It’s funny though, but my husband prefers it without it. Who gets men? Well, at least I get to wear it both ways :)

Thanks, Lisa! I do love that orange belt but for some reason I can’t get to wear it a lot… making a simple black dress was part of the plan to wear the belt more often :)
