This is the fourth dress I’ve ever made and the first one I hope I can share without too much mortification. I made a few changes to the original pattern:
1) A-line skirt
2) gathered rectangle to add length (added after finishing the dress because it didn’t look right without it)
3) Cut out back with buttons
4) Lower neckline, no sleeves, bias tape (in addition to lining)
5) Additional darts for a better fit
6) That crinkly-looking bias tape is tied around my waist for lack of a belt…ahem.
This is such a fun pattern and I loved sewing this dress, but there’s a huge ‘but’ to this: The fabric, it slays me. I think dying it permanently damaged the fibres or something? Whatever it is, I can press the living daylights out of this dress and it will always look like I just pulled it out of the back of my wardrobe :)
Ikea fabric (cotton, dyed dark green), red bias tape, red zipper, two buttons

Thanks! I love Ikea fabric, too. The quality isn’t perfect, but the designs are lovely and it’s 100% cotton! Thanks again for taking the time to comment :)

Thanks! I’m really quite fond of the bias tape belt, too! I’m just not overly fond of always having to iron it out again after wearing it :) Must. Sew. A Belt. After I finish my other projects, that is… Thanks again for your lovely comment.

Thank you so much! My first dresses were almost all from the same pattern, though, so I had some practice working with it :)

Thanks! I’m very happy with the way it fits as well, although it is perhaps a bit big, but that’s better than too small :) About the first dress… NOT SURE I want it online, but I’ll think about it :) I’m self taught and I used that dress to figure out how to do different stitches on my machine. So it’s really just a short colour block number. Thanks anyway :)

Nice work!! Whenever I have fabric that looks kinda wrinkly, I just make the wrinkles work: I usually keep the fabric in a big twisted knot in my closet, so that it is always purposely wrinkled. I have a couple of dresses that work just fine like that.

Haha, I like the way your mind works. It’s all a matter of attitude! :) (And I kinda like a wrinkly look sometimes, it’s more laid back.)
And thanks!

Ooo I love everything about this dress, colour, length, back and piping.
Try spray starch on hard to iron cotton, it’s excellent at getting creases out.
