So I decided it was time to try working with difficult fabrics again, as some time has passed since the “miracle dress” and I’ve improved my skills since then.
Sigh. I wish this is what I could say. The truth is, I went to the fabric store, saw this amazing silk (silk chiffon?) ON SALE and fell in love with it immediately, completely forgetting how extremely hard it is to work with…
Well, I did a little better than last time, I spent a long time getting the settings on my machine right, using satin bias tape for hem/seam finishings (and to give the ruffle a more dramatic effect…) and just being patient, precise and patient. And patient. And working slow.
The pattern is a current one, from “Diana Moden Sonderheft”, I think it’s a simplicity pattern. I just felt like making a project that didn’t require a muslin and alterations for once. It would probably have more effect with a plain fabric, but it is more forgiving this way.
It was a fun and quite fast project, but I’m glad to move on to more sturdy fabrics again.

I can see why you fell in love with the fabric! Though I think I would have put a ‘Difficult’ classification on this one. That looks impossibly hard to me! Really excellent work.

By all means: wait for the patience! :-) But the feeling of the garment will have been worth the wait. Silk is just so delicious!

Absolutely beautiful. I am about to embark on a similar project, so I appreciate your comments. I would have chosen silk chiffon for this as well, and I like your idea of using satin bias tape for the finish.

Oh, thank you! Yes, I very highly recommend using satin bias, even on the inside seams, at least if your fabric is as see-through as mine… The only other thing I could say is that you should probably cut the fabric in single layers, it will be more precise… Good luck!
