Description

One can never have too many Mad Men Inspired dresses.

Here is another lil number in preparation for the Mad Men Dress Challenge.

It is made using luscious red wool faille from Tessuti Fabrics that makes my sewing machine sing.

The dress has 12 fabric covered buttons climbing up the centre back in a most deceptive way; the button enclosure is fake! Yes indeedy! My dress is treacherously closed at the side with an invisible zipper!

The dress is amazing, but how do you sit comfortably with the buttons?

You know, I haven’t actually worn this dress out yet so I haven’t given it the ‘sit-down’ test yet. I’ll let you know when I do!

I love those buttons climbing on your back. Like a colony of ladybirds on their way to a particularly delicious meal :)

And I forgot to ask, did you cover them buttons yourself? They look great!

Thanks lovely, and I do love lady birds :)

I didn’t cover the buttons my self. There is a lovely lady who runs a button shop in Melbourne city who does fabric covered buttons at Button Mania. She’s wonderful and does a much better job than I do for a great price too.

      Thanks for your comment :)

Beautiful Dress! And please excuse the following a bit unpolite question, but isn´t it very uncomfortable to sit on these buttons?

Ha! You’re more than welcome to ask, and you’re not the first to ask this question! I haven’t actually worn this dress out yet so I haven’t tested out the comfortability yet, but I’ll let you know when I do! I do at least have a fair bit of cushioning in that area so I might be alright ;)

Oh, what a beautiful dress! I just love the sleeves and the neckline/collar, absolutely lovely. Did you use a commercial pattern?

Thank you! Yes I did use a commercial pattern, just with a lot of adjustments. The bodice is Butterick 5603 and I changed the skirt to make a pencil shape and drafted my own collar. You can check out the details on my blog!

Thanks Louisa! I make sure that I sew up a toile/muslin first to try and get the shape right. This is also the third time I’ve used this pattern so I’m getting better with the fit because of practise!

I do like me a bit of red, and I’ve noticed that more and more of my wardrobe is getting dominated with red, so it’s a colour I instinctively am drawn too.

      Thanks for your comment!
