LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! After seeing the film I knew I needed this dress. So when it came time to costume the winter play (which was thankfully set in the 1930s) I sat down… pulled all my hair out, and made a pattern to make this.
The top had to be re-done to fit the specification of the Maine Principals Association (mainly that the actress had to wear a bra!). So now it’s a bit complicated, as I didn’t have a fabric laser cutter I ended up zig-zagging to finish off the sleeves. And I didn’t really have time to make the false knot they did for the movie… so yeah, that’s a real knot, and it’s a bulky beast.
It turned out easier that I originally thought, so I think I’m pretty sure I’ll make it in the original green for prom… YAY!
Lots of lining fabric actually, I love the drape even if the static’s a bitch…

Maine Principals Association ?? You have a set of rules that discuss what sort of underwear student performing should wear?! This is funny…

Ahhhh I love it!! I watched the movie just last night and the green dress is a-MAH-zing!!! I really, really want to make it but I am not sure how just yet…I really love the open back of the film version, so I’m going to have to do some thinking, but yours is super pretty!!! That piece that ties around the hips is sooo gorgeous.

I completely fell in love with the green dress from the movie. I actually fell in love with the WHOLE movie :P was even considering dressing as a 30s nurse for carneval. THis said, it would be great to see more photos…and maybe a pattern :P Question, Keira Knightley is extremely slender and the dress really mathced her thin frame, are you built the same or did you go for it anyway, even though maybe you’re a little meatier? I had simply dismissed the dress as “unsuitable”.

Beautiful dress! It emphasizes the hips in a flattering way.
