I’m very happy to report that my draped suit (Burda September 2011 #126 and 127) is finally finished! It feels like I’ve been sewing this for f-o-r-e-v-e-r and I am thoroughly sick of it now!
If you recall, it’s a two-part suit, with a draped, collar-less jacket and a pleated pencil skirt. I’ve been sewing both of the pieces in parallel, so I’ve finished them at the same time. I like a lot of aspects of this suit, but to be perfectly honest, I’m not totally in love with the overall resulting look.

Hi squirrellypoo, I am making this jacket at the moment but am slightly confused by the sewing of the collar onto the back of the jacket – I can’t get the corners neat as they are so ‘square’…..I have a feeling I’ve made an error somewhere! I know you posted this a while ago but I was wondering if you had a similar problem? Your jacket looks beautiful, well done :)

Thanks squirrellypoo. This was really helpful. I toyed with buying this jacket, but as I suspected the proportion would be difficult for someone on the shorter side like me to pull off . I love the asymmetric details, but at my height they may not love me back. The pinky/peach and grey is very flattering on you.

I like that ensemble. And I’ve been thinking of trying it one day, too, when I’ll find the time.

I like this pattern a lot but I am not sure about those ‘trumpet’ shape sleeves. It would look better narrowed at wrist level? Anyway, nice ensemble

Yeah the consensus of the commenters on my blog seems to be that the overall proportions of the jacket really don’t work. Shortening the sleeves to wrist length is by far the easiest “rescue” but I need some mental space before I can return to this jacket! Not a bad thing that the business trip I had in mind when I sewed this has been pushed back to the new year…

It would be nice to see your hands indeed… what about shortening its length? blazer-like?

I have just finished my version of this skirt, I’ll be posting it in these days.
