I made this dress a while back. I started making it without knowing what I wanted it to be, I just knew I wanted that draped fabric over the skirt creating that cowl effect. I ended up with this halter form fitting cocktail dress. It has a corset structure built in with boning and everything.

Oh it’s gorgeous! You sure know how to make the female form pop!! Fantastic!
(Apologies for my excessive use of exlamation marks – I got a little excited)

OMG stunning. My first thought: Angelina Jolie. Then I thought: Barbie! Photoshop! Until I read about the built in corset of course. That’ll do it.

STUNNING!!! Perfect party Frock. Any chance of pics of the back? Did you use a pattern, or did you have a play with the fabric? Might need to make something like this for myself ;)

The back is simple. There`s is a center back zipper and the draped over piece ends on the central back seam right under the zipper. This dress was draped on the form as well ( I just love to drape…). Thanks for the kind comment!

Thankyou. If I hadn’t embarked on a Frock already, a variation of this would have have been on the cards. I forgot to ask, what kind of fabric is it?

I don`t know the name but it`s a blend of synthetics and it has this super fine silver thread woven in (u would have to get really close to be able to see the silver thread) that gives it that wet shine effect.

I hardly ever know what the special stuff is called. More like ‘Tis-shiny-and-pretty-and-i-must-have-it’. Probably a little irresposibe, but there is a tendancy to get distracted by shiny things ;)
Thankyou. What boning did you use on the corset?
Jan 26, 2012, 08.33 PMby marloncosta
Rigilene boning. Those that you can sew on top of. The purpose for the bonig was just to give the dress that structure it needed so I opted for something light like rigiliene boning.
