Description

I made this scarf short and stout for a particular reason. I needed something warm to slip between my leather jacket and my helmet. My neck gets quite chilly on the back of a motorcycle, but I didn’t want to have a scarf flapping in the wind behind me. I’m pretty sure that might be a road hazard!
I also wanted it to be incredibly unique and stylish; hence the ruffle, and flowers.
I chose the colors match my husband’s motorcycle. He likes that part.
First I crocheted the outside, then used buttery satin and created an inner rectangle of lining with my sewing machine. Then I sewed the violet velvet ribbon into a ruffle, which I tacked in between the crochet and lining. I edged the bottom with burgundy velvet, and then made two flowers, one from black wool (with a hand sewn buttonhole down the middle), the other from antique cranberry taffeta. I finished it off with a vintage jet button. When open, both flowers are shown off, when buttoned, they overlap into a full blossom.

Material Notes

satin, velvet, cotton, jet
