Description

Spring is in the air … on the other side of the world. Sigh.

This dress is inspired by the beautiful cherry blossom that was in full bloom on my recent visit to Washington D.C.

The result is a quirky dress with a clashing pink cotton/lame bodice and red dupion skirt.

I love the cheerful girly-ness of this dress, though I’ll probably never have the guts to wear it out in public. If any one decides to host a ‘Strawberry Shortcake’ themed party however, I’d be all over it.

For more details and photos on this dress, including a tutorial on how to make these sleeves, visit my blog at JuliaBobbin

I love this dress! You executed the cherry blossom image beautifully!! Quick question – does the fabric on the sleeves every fray?

Thanks lovely lady! I cut the fabric for the sleeves on the bias which is super important. As a result they can only fray a little bit but not much because they have no where to unravel. It cut it on the straight grain it would unravel all over the place.

When i saw this little picture of you in the Projects, i said to myself ‘OMG, JuliaBobbin a encore frappé !’ (which we could translate as ‘She did it again !’)… And, i obviously have to admit it : you rocked it. Again. Just as usual. :D It’s kind of sad, though, that i’m not surprised anymore to be thrilled by all the wonderful garment you’re sewing. ;-) I just desperately dream that some day, i could get as talented as you… ! A ‘Congrats !’ is not enough, but i’m unable to find words that’s worth your job, right now ! So, bravissimo, and now go back to work and make me dream again, pleaaaase ! ;-p

It’s a very sweet dress, just as everything you make (I’m so jealous!) I’ve been watching your tutorial (for the sleeves), and I had one question : are the rows always vertical and horizontal, or do you make some diagonals too? Thanks

Thank you! And good question. Yes I do some rows on the diagonal as well. It’s really just a matter of what angle works best for you. As your sewing along if you notice things are looking too neat or structured, you can adjust it by sewing it on the angle.

      Good luck with your version!
